MeDoSys in cooperation with the AOK Hessen and the municipal health center in Frankfurt/Main
Task
In 1994, the Frankfurt municipal health centre was looking for a new way of administering substitute drugs which should be more efficient and cost-saving than the distribution of single doses.
Examples in Switzerland, the Netherlands and New York had already shown that automated solutions seemed to work quite well. In cooperation with the Hesse AOK management and the Frankfurt OST outpatient facilities we started to develop a concept.
Challenge
In the project, CompWare Medical® GmbH assumed responsibility for the development of a Methadone dispensing unit and the corresponding software to manage and control the entire substitution process. This implied not only finding a technical solution for the automatic dispensing of liquid substitutes and its documentation, but also making sure that the system was in accordance with German drug legislation.
Success
The initial concept resulted in a system called MeDoSys® which was first used for dispensing Methadone in May 1996. Since then we have been continuously enhancing and improving MeDoSys®. The automatic Methadone dispenser with documentation software has developed into a comprehensive system which has proved successful in many fields of substitution medicine. Today, more than 300 MeDoSys® Methadone dosing systems are being used worldwide.
